SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES

Aside from the regular service opportunities available (Nancy's Place, ICM Breakfasts, Faith Mission, Rahab's Hideaway, etc.), there are several other ways to get involved that may be intriguing to you.  These opportunities are PERFECT for SMALL GROUPS to do together!!!  Read through the options below and contact the church with any questions.

Opportunity to Sponsor Potluck Dinner for Internationals

Beginning this academic year, Bridges International (International Student Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ at OSU) is hosting a weekly potluck dinner for internationals on campus as an outreach event every Friday night (7-9 PM) through spring quarter.

Why?

This would be a great help for Bridges International and would provide our church an opportunity to see "up close and personally" the dynamic potential to reach the world for Christ while serving members of OSU’s international community.  The focus is the Buckeye Village Housing Complex where a high concentration of internationals reside.  During the 2007-08 academic year, they had eight Chinese connected to this event pray to receive Christ.

How many people attend?

Anticipate the need to provide the main course and two side dishes to feed about 25 adults and 10 children each week, plus the number of people from your group.

What type of food to bring?

Please avoid uncooked vegetables, desserts, and cheesy foods.  The main dish could be an "entree" type meat item such as a meat & vegetable stir-fry, roast turkey, chicken, beef, pork, casseroles (such as chicken, tuna, or beef & noodles), baked spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, or other pasta dishes, etc.  Side dishes could be a starch (potatoes, rice, sweet potatoes, beans, etc) and a cooked vegetable dish (corn, green beans, broccoli, etc).  Fruit is always appreciated.  Bread is an easy additional item to bring.  An option would be to purchase prepared food such as City Barbeque, Boston Market, or Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Please bring serving utensils with you.

What you do while we are there?

Anyone who comes to bring food can join in the Bible study and discussion around the tables after dinner.  Along with bringing food, there is also a very real need for 3-4 childcare helpers to engage with the elementary age children who attend while the adults have Bible study.  Typically, there is one social night a month, so if you come that night, you can join them to play games and have fun with the internationals.

What is provided by Bridges International?

Drinks, plates, napkins, tablecloths, plastic ware, etc,

What dates are available?

2010-2011 dates are still to be determined

What time should you be there?

Set-up food from 6:45-7:00 PM, the dinner and Bible study go from approximately 7:00-9:00 PM.  Some churches prefer to just bring the meal, eat, and leave thereafter.  This is an option that is available, although there is a BIG need for some help with childcare as mentioned above.

Where is the location of the dinner and Bible study?

Buckeye Village "Old" Recreation Center.  Take SR 315 to Ackerman Rd.  Turn on Ackerman Rd towards campus (east) and go to the second traffic light.  There is a shopping center on your left, and the Buckeye Village apartment complex will be on the right.  Take a right on Defiance Dr. and travel for about 300 yards.  The new recreation center will be on the left.  Drive behind it to the single story cream-colored "old" recreation center.  This is near the intersection of Ackerman Rd and Olentangy River Rd.
