Women's Triathlon

Training sessions begin in early to mid-March and will be offered once or twice a week. Training sessions can be attended whether you do the triathlon or just want to get in shape and build relationships with other Cypress women! For more information or to get started, contact Women's Triathlon Coordinator, Colleen Pema (click to email) or 832-3090. Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Human Trafficking: A Christian response to modern-day slavery
The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene. Isaiah 59:15-16
Wesleyan Women and World Hope International are partnering to sponsor educational training for men and women in anti-human trafficking. Participants in the training will return to their areas to educate others on how to recognize victims and assist with their recovery and healing.
What is trafficking in persons?
Trafficking in persons, particularly in women and children, is the modern-day slave trade. It is a multi-billion dollar business and the third largest criminal industry next to trafficking illegal drugs and weapons. Millions of people are held captive around the world at any given time - forced into sexual slavery, labor, domestic servitude, armed conflict, begging networks, or bought and sold for their body parts. Victims of this horrific market suffer repeated rapes, beatings, forced abortions, mental abuse, and isolation. They also endure phusical and mental health repercussions including HIV/AIDS, reproductive complications, post-traumatic stress, and severe depression. In addition to the gross human rights abuses suffered by victims, trafficking-in-persons fuels internal and cross-border conflicts that destabilize whole regions, encourages transnational and organized crime, and promotes corruption at all levels of government.
Many people do not know that trafficking happens in cities and towns in North America and is facilitated by people in our own country. As you participate in the program, you will begin to understand the pervasiveness of this trade and its inherent connection to our own country, your own neighborhood.
